The anti-hype rule
More is not automatically better.
If you cannot explain why each product is in your routine, simplify
before you expand. A basic structure may be enough for many everyday
routines: gentle cleansing as appropriate, moisturising when needed,
and daytime sun protection. Other products should earn their place by
addressing a specific goal without creating unnecessary overlap.
This is also why the guide does not publish a universal “perfect
routine.” Skin type, tolerance, current products, medicines, pregnancy,
allergies and diagnosed skin conditions can all change what makes
sense for an individual. Retail education can improve a purchasing
decision; it should not pretend to replace individualized medical care.
Dermatologist-reviewed guidance from the American Academy of
Dermatology similarly emphasizes that product order matters and that
excessive product use can irritate skin.
